Hang a family gallery wall in just 4 steps
Building your own gallery wall is a great way to show off family photos or your favorite art pieces. Your Thirty-One Consultant has a variety of custom templates you can use to arrange (and rearrange!) to your heart’s content – or create your own by cutting out shapes from a brown paper bag. With the help of your Consultant and these simple instructions, you’re on your way to creating a unique gallery wall that you and your family will enjoy day after day!
Step 1: Get inspired
Before hanging up your pieces, it’s important to start with a theme or style for your artwork and choose a wall. Look for inspiration online, and don’t be afraid to use a mix of art styles, media and frame types. Once you’ve got a style and wall chosen, collect your pieces. It’s time to get the real party started!
Step 2: Get creative
Don’t get out the nail and hammer just yet! First, you’ll want to lay out your pieces on the ground to see how they fit together and get a general idea of the layout you’re going for. Start by laying your largest piece in the middle and building out. You can keep a formal grid pattern or keep things lax with a more organic shape; it’s up to you!
Step 3: Get arranging
Once you’ve got a layout chosen, it’s time to work with your homemade templates, or the custom ones your Consultant provides. Instead of filling your walls with nail holes (yikes!), match up your pieces to the templates and tape them to the wall.
This is the time to work on spacing – it’s best to keep your pieces about 1.5" to 2" apart, but feel free to change it up to fit your style! Since they’re only attached by tape, you can move the templates as many times as you want, so don’t be afraid to get creative with the layout.
Step 4: Get hanging
After placing your templates, hanging your gallery wall is easy! The hanging hardware is clearly marked on each Thirty-One template to make nail placement easy, but hardware locations can vary slightly between pieces, so double check your measurements.
Simply hammer a nail through the template where the hardware is marked, take the template off the wall and hang your piece on the nail. If you want to reuse your templates, you can gently remove the nail before taking the template down and replace the nail afterward. Repeat this with each of your pieces – then sit back and admire your beautiful work!
PRO TIP: Personalize your gallery wall by adding your own photos or artwork. Look for additional pieces at thrift stores or flea markets. Wreaths, wooden signs, large metal letters, clocks and mirrors are all great options!
