Ultimate Guide to Staying Organized on the Go
For busy moms, the car often becomes a second home, ferrying kids to school, activities, and errands. Keeping the car organized can make a world of difference in managing day-to-day chaos. Here’s our ultimate guide to staying organized on the go!
1. Have a Car Essentials Bag
Use a utility tote to store essentials like a roadside emergency kit, a blanket, umbrella, flashlight, extra chargers, reusable grocery bags, and a roll of paper towels or rags for spills.
2. Keep Trash Contained
If you’re heading on a road trip or heading off to an out-of-town tournament, the last thing you want is to spend hours in the car with nowhere to throw away empty cups, wrappers, and trash items. The Stand-Tall Bin can double as a car garbage bag; it can prop beneath your captain's chairs or between the bench seats of your van or SUV. Empty it out and give it a wipe-down when you reach your destination and you’re good to go! If you need something smaller, the Essential Storage Tote is also a great option – you can hang the handles over a seat back!
3. Create Space for Snacks and Drinks
Sometimes there just aren’t enough cup holders for all the things kids like to have in the car! Keeping a water bottle carrier in the backseat gives some extra room for the water bottles, fruit snacks, or bags of chips so you’re not fishing for everything under the seats.
4. Pack a Car Snack Bag
Snacks are a must when kids are in the car—the hangry-ness can strike at any time! So try packing up a thermal bag before you hit the road with things like juice boxes, sports drinks, fruit, pretzels, or cheese sticks. Add a couple of ice packs to the bag, especially if it’s hot, and you’re set.
5. Organize Small Items
Try having a designated Zipper Pouch for each kid to store a book, coloring pages, crayons, or other car activities. Keep the pouches in their door pocket or seatback pockets and they can grab them to keep themselves busy when boredom strikes. Tip: Having each kid pick out their pouch print or personalization helps reduce any battles over whose is whose! We also like keeping a pouch with small emergency items like wipes, sanitizer, band-aids, anti-nausea medicine, and nail clippers and tweezers in the glove box.
6. Keep Extra Totes on Hand
Having a few utility totes in your car at all times is a busy-mom hack. It’ll make sure you’re always ready for a grocery run, can help if you need to lug home a big school project, or even stow wet or dirty sports gear. Keep them folded up in a backseat organizer so they stay out of the way but they’re always ready to go. You can also use one for kids' coloring books and activities, too!
A Couple More Tips for Car Organization:
- Do regular clean-outs! Dedicate a few minutes each week to clean out trash and reorganize items in your car.
- Label what you can. Use personalization to identify the contents in or uses for your organizers. It’ll be easy to find what you need quickly.
