Create a home coffee nook in 4 steps

Whether you like ‘em hot or iced, with five sugars or black, there’s no better way to start the day than with a comforting cup of joe. Although we love a large iced latte from our favorite café as much as the next person, we think that a home-brewed cup can be just as satisfying, especially when it’s served up in your very own coffee nook.

Step 1: Choose your space

Where you set up your coffee station might depend on how much space you have to work with. If you’ve got some empty real estate in your kitchen or dining area, you could go all out with a bar cart or even a console table dedicated to coffee essentials.

Or, simply set aside a corner of your kitchen counter, island or an open shelf for your favorite coffee fixings. Whichever way you go, keep in mind what method you use to brew – this will determine whether you need an electrical outlet nearby.

2. Collect your coffee essentials

Round up your coffee maker of choice, favorite mugs and – most importantly – coffee!

If you’re more of a tea drinker, break out your tea bags, kettle and other necessities. Here are some morning-beverage staples you might want to keep in your nook:

  • Coffee maker – French press, pour over or drip
  • Mugs, to-go thermoses and glasses
  • Coffee – ground, whole beans or pods
  • Sweeteners – sugar, honey or flavored syrups
  • Creamer
  • Coffee filters
  • Biscotti or cookies
  • Cinnamon
  • Straws
  • Napkins
  • Spoons
  • Coffee stirrers
3. Arrange and organize

Time for the fun part – setting up your coffee corner! Bins, baskets and other small containers are the secret to keeping everything neat and accessible. Use a wooden Close to HomeTM Tray to display your favorite mugs, or stow your drinkware out of sight in a Your Way® Rectangle.

A Felt Hanging Bin is the perfect size for coffee pods, tea bags or sugar packets, while the Close to HomeTM Caddy sports 3 compartments ideal for storing spoons, straws and coffee stirrers.

Tuck bags of beans, filters or bottles syrup into a Double Duty® Caddy, Littles Carry-AllTM Caddy or Tiny Utility Tote. If you’re looking for a one-stop shop to corral all your coffee essentials, look no further than the roomy Felt Display Bin or a simple Close to HomeTM Décor Box.

4. Add a fun pop!

Adding a unique extra or two can take your coffee nook from functional to fantastic! Small décor pieces like a framed art print, ceramics or Close to HomeTM Round Frame add a beautiful pop of personality.

A dash of greenery like a succulent or a fake plant if your coffee nook doesn’t get much light is a great way to bring color and life to the space. Books, including cookbooks, are also an easy way to add visual interest. Place them upright or stack them on their sides to add height and dimension.
