Top trend: Global Inspired fashion prints
This season’s fashion is all about making a statement with saturated tones and large-scale patterns: Stripes in the shades of a desert sunrise. Mandalas in bright, primary hues. Posh pebbled solids in rich jewel tones. These interesting and beautiful global prints are enjoying a surge of popularity everywhere from Hollywood to your hometown.
We love how incorporating globally inspired accessories adds a timeless quality to your look; prints like these have been influencing fashion and art for hundreds (sometimes thousands) of years and won’t go out of style as trends change.
Global inspiration, accessible style
Thirty-One Gifts has a history of paying homage to artisan patterns such as these: Our ikat-inspired Indigo Ink print harkened back to an intricate dying process that’s used across many continents. And Woodblock Whimsy is one of several Thirty-One prints inspired by traditional woodblock cuts, an ancient textile-and paper-printing technique.
Now we’re excited to bring you a collection of some of our top-selling products in new Global Inspired prints – each with that Thirty-One flair you love. Read on to learn more about the artistic traditions that inspired our fun, functional and on-trend styles.
The hottest way to wear (or carry!) stripes this season is with a nod to the desert-chic trend. This distinctive style reflects the artistic traditions of many cultures throughout the American Southwest. Perhaps the most recognizable aesthetics today stem from Chinle patterns of alternating geometric shapes and stripes featured in Navajo weavings and pottery.
Our own take on this colorful stripe is definitely at the height of fashion, with an ability to turn even a simple insulated lunch bag into a stylish statement piece. The scale means this stripe looks great on smaller pieces, too, like the Zipper Pouch and Perfect Cents Wallet.
Medallions are a popular design element in accessories and home décor fabrics, drawing inspiration from similar patterns from around the world. Suzani textiles have roots in Central Asia, where cotton fabric is embroidered with interlocking motifs like discs and flowers. (The word suzani means “of needle” in Persian.) Our Sunset Medallion print in red, gold and navy also elicits the aesthetic of hand-painted Mexican talavera pottery through its painted look, vivid palette and repeating pattern.
Great design is elemental – and definitely worth celebrating! This applies to both our detailed Floral Fiesta print in purple, gold and red as well as Etched Elements featuring graphic diamond shapes in bright blue and neutral tones. Each combines elements of traditional relief printing like linocut or wood block – techniques with ancient roots in India, China and Egypt that are now practiced by artisans all over the world. These result in the distinct linework, hash marks and use of positive and negative contrast found in folk art and textiles around the globe.
And because functionality never goes out of fashion, we’ve applied this design inspiration to some of our most sought-after home and utility products, like the Large Utility Tote, Zip-Top Organizing Utility Tote and Fold N’ File.
We’ve made it easy to ground these bold prints and complete your look by reintroducing sophisticated faux-leather solids in perfectly coordinating hues. Try these great solids in an elevated fabrication to pull everything together beautifully:
- Posh Purple Pebble – Who doesn’t love purple?! Tuck a Floral Fiesta Zipper Pouch into your personalized Around Town Tote in this popular shade.
- Very Cherry Pebble – A classic red All About the Benjamins wallet is the perfect accessory with your Sunset Medallion Retro Metro Bag or Studio Thirty-One Modern purse with a Southwest Stripe flap. This bright hue also lends a fun pop to Floral Fiesta!
- Black Beauty Pebble – A classic black Midway Hobo purse is a great way to start any look: Put together a chic pairing for work with a Lunch Break Thermal in Etched Elements, or get ready for a night out by tossing in a Perfect Cents Wallet in Southwest Stripe.
- Caramel Charm Pebble – With three ways to wear this popular solid (alone in a Midway Hobo or All About the Benjamins wallet, or paired with a bright Global Inspired print in a Studio Thirty-One Modern or Classic purse), it’s the perfect neutral to complement your favorite new print.
