COMMITTED TO
DOING BETTER TOGETHER
For 18 years, we’ve been in the business of helping. From creating lasting products that help make life easier on-the-go and at home, to helping women everywhere feel empowered. Now, we’re ready to lend an even bigger helping hand with sustainable ambitions.
We are committed to refocusing our company efforts on sustainable development and are working to take the necessary steps toward becoming an Earth-friendly and equitable business. A sustainable outlook is more than adopting “eco”practices and products, it affects every step of your journey, from production to people to the planet. It is not just a phase—it’s a movement.
Some steps are small, but every step counts. Together, we can look after the planet, take care of each other and uncover new, innovative ways of working. Together, we can make the ultimate impact.
We are Thirty-One and we are committed to doing better together.

As we work toward creating more planet-friendly products (with the same style and durability you love), one of our first steps is introducing two new collections created with a more sustainable approach. These products are better for the planet because of their fabrication, or because of their multi-use nature—and we can’t wait for you to see them.

THE FUTURE OF FABRIC
We’re beginning to make our top-selling totes and bags with recycled polyester, made from recycled bottles. Together, we will be able to keep up to 4 million plastic bottles out of the landfills in 2022. We’re also working toward expanding this collection to include 65% of our products by Fall 2022.

SUSTAINABLE SWAPS
Our totes, bags and pouches have always been intended for more than single-use, which makes them “sustainable swaps” and better choice for the planet. This Fall, we’re also introducing a new way to say “bye, bye” to plastic baggies. Our Reusable Snack Bags come in two different sizes and are perfect for lunches, car rides and more.

The collection is starting small, but all big changes do. We are committed to continuing this change, and to taking steps to explore more Earth-friendly fabrics and ways to make even the tiniest details, like zippers and toggles, better for the future.

We are committed to refocusing our company efforts and are working to take the necessary steps toward becoming an Earth-friendly and equitable business.
As we work toward creating more planet-friendly products, one of our first steps is introducing a new recycled polyester fabric made from recycled bottles. Nine of our top-selling totes and bags are made from this new recycled thread.
Currently, our taskforce is also focused on developing specific goals and sustainability action items.
Recycled polyester fabric is made from rPET, recycled PET (polyethylene terephthalate) plastic that is used to make packaging such as plastic bottles and food containers. rPET is 100% recyclable and is the most recycled plastic in the United States and worldwide.
In Fall 2021, 25% of our products will be in a new recycled polyester fabric, made from recycled plastic bottles. Our goal is to increase this to 65% of products by Fall 2022.
Note: Only certain, new Fall prints of these items feature the new fabric. Carryover prints will be in transition, please reference the interior label for confirmation.

Yes. We are working toward increasing the number of styles in this fabric. In Fall 2021, the products in this new fabric make up 25% of our total products. Our goal is to grow this to 55% in Spring 2022, with a goal of 65% by Fall 2022.
Our new fabric is made using 100% clear, plastic bottles and mechanical recycling. This includes waste collection, sorting, shredding, washing, melting and reorganization of the threads. Then the yarn is spun and woven into the fabric.
Our totes, bags and pouches have always been intended for more than single-use, which makes them a better choice for the planet. Currently, only 25% of our products are created in recycled polyester fabric, made from recycled plastic bottles. Our goal is to increase this to 65% by Fall 2022. The rest of our products are made with traditional materials such as faux leather, novelty weaves and cotton. We are working toward more sustainable options through research, trials and development.
No. All of our products have gone through significant testing to adhere to our exceptional quality standards. We also conducted 13 weeks of consumer wear testing outside of our labs to understand the response to this collection from people like you! All styles in the fabric made from recycled plastic bottles either met or exceeded the quality standards of our previous non-recycled materials.
Examples of the testing include:
- Crocking test (dry and wet) to gauge if color rubs off of fabric when subjected to abrasion
- Tensile strength test (warp and weft) to test material’s resistance to breakage under tension
- Tear strength test (warp and weft) to learn material resistance to tearing
- Seam strength test
- Fabric weight and thickness testing to gauge the textile weight
No. Personalization options will not change with the new recycled polyester fabric, made from recycled bottles. Please note that the threads used to monogram and personalize our products is not available in fabric made from recycled plastic bottles, but we are working toward that goal in the next 3 years. We are also working toward more sustainable options through research, trials and development.
You can shop all items in the recycled polyester fabric, made from recycled plastic bottles here.
Because our new fabric is a rolling change, only certain new Fall prints are created from these recycled plastic bottles. You can check your care and content label to confirm.
We continue to not only focus on the products we deliver, but also how they are produced. We are working closely with our manufacturing partners to continue our movements in reducing our carbon footprint and conserving energy and water.
Currently, we have converted our poly bag products into 50% post-consumer waste and our product hang cards are shifting to 100% recycled paper.
